GETTING TO OPUNAKE
By car from New Plymouth
Head south from New Plymouth along Surf Highway 45 for 61.8kms taking 51 minutes depending on traffic.
By car from Hawera
Head north from Hawera along Surf Highway 45 for 43.5kms taking 43 minutes depending on traffic.
​The major nationwide bus companies have stops in Hawera and New Plymouth but do not come directly to Opunake. Pickerings run buses from Hawera and New Plymouth to Opuanke

THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Overlooking a magnificent black sand surf beach, Opunake sits on Surf Highway 45 and is known as the “Home of the Big Wave”. Along with being a great place to host a beach carnival, Opunake and the surrounding region offers a range of other great things to see and do. There is a challenging 18 hole golf course, cafes, art galleries galore, fishing, walking and biking loop trail, pump track, play grounds, free toddlers pool at the beach, patrolled swimming beach, tramping, boutique shopping, a heated pool, skate park and a boutique movie theatre to name a few. So why not stay a few days and enjoy this little piece of "Taradise!"
